Welcome To Samutprakan

Samutprakan – A Historic Gateway to the Gulf of Thailand
Samut Prakan, located just south of Bangkok at the mouth of the Chao Phraya River, has long been known as one of Thailand’s most strategic port cities. Its history dates back to the Ayutthaya Kingdom, when it served as a vital defense and maritime trade hub connecting the kingdom to the Gulf of Thailand and international merchants.

The province was historically called Pak Nam, meaning “river mouth,” and was fortified with forts and watchtowers to protect the capital from naval invasions. During the early Rattanakosin era, King Rama II and King Rama III further strengthened Samut Prakan’s importance by constructing forts such as Phra Chulachomklao Fortress to secure the capital.

Today, Samut Prakan blends rich history with modern urban life — home to cultural sites, riverside communities, and well-preserved heritage that reflects its legacy as a historical gateway to Bangkok.
